Earth Star Fungi
Why be round when you can be a star? Related to puffballs Earth Stars start off looking like little brown balls, but when they're ready to shine, the outer layer splits open into star-shaped arms, like a mushroom doing jazz hands! Spores are released in a puff from the central sac by a breeze or a raindrop. Seen from July to October, despite their cute and fancy looks, Earthstars are not edible—unless you’re a fan of tough, tasteless fungi (and possibly a stomach ache).
