Western Yew

I love yew! Western Yew is a small, slow-growing tree common in old-growth forests. Some specimens in B.C. are over 1,000 years old! While most conifers (like pines and spruces) have cones, the Western Yew has red, berry-like fruits. These bright berries, called “arils”, are toxic to humans but a tasty treat for birds.
